Mataji Lasika Needs an Urgent Treatment
Mataji Lasika from Kharkiv, disciple of H. H. Niranjana Swami, is undergoing difficult treatment after complications from meningitis.
Nadiia, mataji Lasika’s daughter, says:
The drainage that my mother has now is constantly removing fluid from the skull. The shunt, on the other hand, regulates the amount of fluid automatically depending on the pressure, and it opens when the intracranial pressure rises, draining some of the fluid, thus reducing the pressure. The shunt is a precise mechanism controlling exact pressure, unlike drainage when there is no way to know the actual pressure in the skull.
The shunt is located entirely inside the person. The valve is attached directly to the skull and a tube is placed under the skin and into the abdominal cavity. This prevents possible infections, unlike a drainage system where the tube sticks out. With a shunt, people live a full life. It’s like having a prosthetic leg or a heart implant.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to tell now whether my mother will fully regain consciousness or whether there will be any abnormalities. We can only hope and believe that everything will come back to normal.
Usually a shunt is necessary until the end of one’s life. However, there is a chance that after a while and since the hydrocephalus was caused by an infection, fluid secretion and absorption will come back to normal.
At this point, a surgical shunt is a must. It is dangerous to leave the drainage any longer as it may provoke an infection. And without a shunt, my mother could die.
Please pray for her to be able to continue her journey to Krishna in this body and in sound mind if Krishna wants this for her.
Mataji Lasika is a very kind and compassionate devotee. She is humble and very considerate. She will not say any unpleasant things to anyone and she knows how to be patient. Since the war broke out she has been cooking prasad for the Food of Life in Kharkiv. She also makes garlands and takes part in puja.
We are opening a fundraiser for Mataji Lasika’s treatment of USD 1,600.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a one-time donation only!!
